Perchè Haftar piace tanto ai libici

The unity government solution has collapsed on itself, and our politicians, regardless of ideology, are all unfit to run a country. And yes, Heftar has ulterior motives, East Libyans are not deluded enough to believe that he noble ideals. But he presented a solution that achieved results, something no one else has been able to do.

The current situation in East Libya is not the same as under Gadhafi, nor can it be called despotism in the traditional sense. East Libyans are not embracing dictatorship; they are embracing stability and a chance to live in peace for the first time in six years. The alternative is not freedom. It only takes one look into the harrowed face of a Benghazi resident to realize that they will support and defend this current peace no matter what accusations are hurled against the city.

How do you assess the last moves made by Russia when they met with General Haftar on their air carrier in the Libyan territorial waters? Is that a threat, a new threat in that region, in the Mediterranean? Thank you. General Petr Pavel (Chairman, NATO Military Committee): I think it is very natural that Russia is trying within, or in line with their recent policies, to have more influence in the regions of their interests. The contact with General Haftar may contribute if General Haftar is an official representant of Libya. But I believe that international community recognizes as official representant of Libya, the government in Tripoli. In that sense, the effort is not helping. We would obviously welcome participation of any actor who would contribute to the solution. But contacts with just one side are not helpful. NATO

Poi bisogna vedere se e a quanti piace veramente il generale Haftar al di là della situazione di emergenza e del paragone inevitabile ma poco calzante, che se ne fa con Ghaddafi.

Di Haftar sono state fatte circolare storie sul suo ruolo nella Libia di ieri e di uomo che sarebbe molto vicino alla Cia. Poco si sa del suo vero carattere nè si riesce a tracciare un profilo che spieghi perchè è così difficile trattare con lui. Per quel poco che abbiamo visto, rispetto a Ghaddafi il generale ha, o almeno mostra di avere, la schiena dritta. Muammar, a dispetto di tutte le sceneggiate contro l'America e l'Occidente in generale, alla fine assieme alla sua famiglia si faceva gli affari suoi un pò con tutti. Non solo con l'Italia di Berlusconi. Cosa che è stata la fonte di maggiore sofferenza per il suo popolo.
Haftar ci ha sbattuto la porta in faccia sul giornale e anche di fatto. Fa i suoi giretti tra Egitto e Libia non solo per il selfie del giorno ma per stringere alleanze. Ha aderito al blocco antiamericano che cerca di cambiare i destini del medio-oriente e del mondo. Di uno così ci si può fidare più che del Serraj al quale il nostro esercito fa da scorta.
Diceva l'Ambasciatore francese in Libia che Haftar non è la soluzione ma parte di essa. Le nostre soluzioni ad Haftar non vanno a genio. Figurarsi esserne protagonista anche in minima parte.
