We believe HackingTeam has gone further than any other company to address the concerns of human rights organizations not only through our own policies but also by complying with international standards including the Wassenaar Arrangement protocols which are now in place and administered in our case by the government of Italy.
No other company has agreed to this or other oversight for surveillance technologies.

3. Please describe the specific laws (or categories of law) Hacking Team requires customers to abide by. To what extent have you raised Ethiopia’s obligations under international human rights treaties to protect freedom of expression, the right to privacy, media freedom, and other rights with government customers? How do you evaluate lawful use where local law is inconsistent with the government’s international human rights obligations?
We have described the obligations we expect customers to abide by in our Customer Policy and those obligations are reflected in our contracts. As we state in our Customer Policy, we do our own evaluation before we agree to accept a client, and, we consider the pubic record of a client at that time. In the past, we have declined to do business when we thought there was likely to be misuse our technology. Should questions arise after we contract with a client, we then reevaluate the situation. We take action when we believe it is warranted We do not report the results of our investigation to the press or other groups, because we consider this to be an internal business matter. Che considerassero il "pubic record" era scontato.

Credo sia profondamente ipocrita condannare lo smercio di questo ed altri software.
Se c'è un mercato allora ci sono anche motivazioni e attori.
E non sono solo queste forniture a danneggiare l'Etiopia ed altre nazioni .
Però trovo altrettanto ipocrita parte della customer policy di cui vanno tanto vantandosi :

We believe have used HT technology to facilitate gross human rights abuses.

Su cosa si baserebbe questo monitoraggio della geopolitica ?
E come fanno a sapere in che modo la loro tecnologia influisce sugli abusi compiuti a danno dei diritti umani ?

In qualsiasi Paese del golfo persico ad esempio, tengono sotto controllo vita virtuale e reale del soggetto attenzionato e poi se necessario lo prelevano da casa senza avvertire famiglia e avvocato che si fanno il giro delle sette moschee per settimane per cercare di capire in che prigione viene tenuto.
Spesso viene interrogato per ore negli uffici del Cid.
Se va tutto bene gli fanno firmare un foglio che lo obbliga al silenzio.
Io queste cose le so perchè le ho vissute sulla pelle di amici giornalisti e scrittori e mi trovavo sul posto.
Questi signori che volano tra Dubai e Roma incassando milioni ogni giorno che intendono per "gross" e cosa sanno della polizia e dei governi di certi Paesi ?

Dicono che loro vendono tutta roba legale che sappiamo essere usata anche dai nostri servizi.
Non c'è stato nessuno del governo o della polizia postale e magari dei servizi stessi che quando uscirono certe notizie, si sia mosso per dirci che è veramente tutto a posto e legale.
Come se bastassero il ministero dell'economia, Wassenaar e le analisi geopolitiche.
Questo Paese naviga tra sospetti e illegalità anche a causa di questi atteggiamenti.
