...The US sanctions law is mandatory for Lebanese banks although it is a purely political law, used
as a tool to put pressure on Hezbollah by destabilizing its environment and isolating it. We also
expect that the list of blocked entities and persons will be expanded in the upcoming period,
further threatening social stability.
Therefore, it is crucial for Lebanese authorities to mobilize their resources at the international
level to alleviate the consequences of this law by trying to balance between the national
interest and the requirements of the international financial system.

L'unico elemento interessante nella designazione resa nota ieri in tarda serata, è la nota sulla fattiva collaborazione da parte del Sultanato dell'Oman. Si tratta evidentemente di un segnale a tutti gli alleati, o anche semplici interlocutori, dell'Iran.
E anche al sistema bancario libanese che è comunque sotto osservazione da diverso tempo.
Il fatto stesso che la Jammal sia impegnata in un tribunale americano, assieme ad altre banche, a difendersi da una causa "civile" per attentati compiuti in Iraq ai danni di soldati americani da parte di Hizballah, e che il giudice avrebbe per il momento sospeso il procedimento, la dice lunga sulla complessità del meccanismo e sull'efficacia che le sanzioni, alle quali ormai le istituzioni libanesi sono abituate, possono esercitare.
