in brief, it is alleged that the intelligence services of the UK were complicit in torture by agents of the US. If the allegations are true, it is imperative that that should be established. If they are not true, it is just as important that that should be made clear, so as to maintain public confidence. We conclude that it would be in the public interest for these issues to be considered by this Tribunal, which is a fair, independent and impartial court. IPT UK May 2023

A dispetto delle apparenti buone intenzioni le direttive di Cameron si arenarono sul solito dettato che a un certo punto l'indagine giudiziaria si deve fermare perchè ci sono dettagli che metterebbero in pericolo la vita di agenti, fonti, blah blah.

In questi casi conta conoscere il livello di consapevolezza e quindi il sostegno più o meno diretto fornito alle operazioni di tortura.

Se informarono o no il governo.

L'errore di fondo delle rendition è stato credere che gente votata al martirio potesse lasciarsi spaventare.

Si è trattato di uno spreco di denaro e personale.

Laddove sono stati costruiti i black sites questa pratica è stata fonte di ulteriore corruzione e imbarbarimento dei governi e delle civiltà dei Paesi ospitanti.

Cioè ulteriore fonte di grattacapi per i Paesi europei.

Pentimento e 41 bis sono espressione del pragmatismo italiano.

La consapevolezza che più di tanto da certa gente non si può ottenere.

E che quel tanto ha comunque un costo.
