I ragazzi sono capaci di fingere. I test d'ingresso per una agenzia d'intelligence possono essere prevedibili. E' anche possibile che ci sia stata una sottovalutazione da parte degli scrutatori. In generale nel settore informatico i soggetti borderline sono considerati obiettivi di prima scelta.

Nel momento in cui Schulte ha scelto di lavorare per il governo, e anche quando ha seguito la trafila burocratica per difendersi, credeva effettivamente che il proprio orientamento/atteggiamento (non solo politico) potesse avere uno sbocco istituzionale. Se la CIA avesse lavorato sul suo essere "opinionated" non ci sarebbe stato tradimento.

Lo hanno trattato come una macchinetta sforna codici. Un impiegato dell'intelligence è comunque un essere umano. La sua umanità è un'arma a doppio taglio. A seconda di come la si gestisce, può essere un assetto o una opzione nucleare.
