Se per un verso è comprensibile che si sia arrivati a questo punto, con De Mistura che un giorno avverte l'opposizione circa la propria sconfitta e Tillerson che il mese dopo dà l'ultimatum ad Assad, mentre arabi e russi cercano una via d'uscita in vista del business della ricostruzione, non si capisce perchè sia stata lasciata al dittatore la possibilità di affamare la propria gente. Il bambino di Goutha è solo l'ultimo nell'ordine di tempo. Da anni in varie parti della Siria la gente, quando riesce a trovare la forza di uscire di casa, va alla ricerca di fili d'erba da mangiare. E tutto ciò grazie alle enormi capacità di negoziazione delle nazioni unite e ai cessate il fuoco messi in piedi per dare modo ai mercenari al servizio di Assad di riorganizzarsi.
Se mai un giorno si dovesse arrivare a fare giustizia, Staffan De Mistura deve rispondere di crimini di guerra in tribunale. Dopo ovviamente, avergli concesso la possibilità di "verificare" la veridicità delle immagini.

SECRETARY TILLERSON: Well, it’s our view that – and I’ve said this many times as well – that we do not believe there is a future for the Assad regime, the Assad family. I think I’ve said it on a number of occasions. The reign of the Assad family is coming to an end, and the only issue is how should that be brought about. And we believe it can be brought about and will be brought about as part of the UN Security Council – implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2254, which, as you know, has a very specific prescribed procedure for elections and the development of a new constitution. I think what – the only thing that changed is when this administration came into office, we took a view that it is not a prerequisite that Assad go before that process starts, rather the mechanism by which Assad departs will likely emerge from that process.
