Where my demons hide

No intelligence officer, or human being for that matter, should ever have to go through the bullying and harassment I did. At CSIS, I faced intimidation, isolation, exclusion, unfair scrutiny, a toxic work environment, and gender, racial and religious discrimination. I was prevented from advancing my career by systemic racism and barriers meant to deny me opportunities. I often felt alone in my struggle. It took me many years to learn and acknowledge that CSIS was perpetuating systemic biases against women, Muslims, racialized minorities, Indigenous peoples and LGBTQ2S+ people. Ci vuole coraggio, e un pizzico di sfrontatezza, per scrivere un post del genere dopo le storie lette in questi giorni.

Le agenzie d'intelligence anglosassoni sono il prodotto di società in continua evoluzione dove cambiamento e correzione di errori avvengono in maniera veloce e strutturata. Coraggio per loro è un modo d'intendere la vita in generale.

Mentre leggevo il racconto appassionato della signora Mukbil, pensavo a messe e sermoni dei bei tempi che furono a Forte Braschi. Non che io creda a tutto quello che i giornali scrivono. Cerco di incastrare i resoconti con il contesto e i profili che mi sono costruita nel tempo. Che nel caso in questione erano abbastanza compatibili.

Passati tutti i test di idoneità, questi devono bastare al nuovo assunto e all'agenzia. Il resto è chiacchiera.

Visto da un Paese dove ai musulmani italiani fu chiesta una specie di prova d'amore. Figurarsi prenderli a lavorare nei servizi.

Poi se un agente o un funzionario d'intelligence non sa resistere a pressioni di vario tipo, è un altro problema.
