Amman, Jan. 18 (Petra) -- The Israeli government on Thursday officially expressed regret and apologized to Jordan over a shooting incident at its embassy here back in July 2017, in which an embassy guard shot dead two Jordanians. Minister of State for Media Affairs, Mohammad Momani, said the Foreign Ministry received an official memorandum from Israel's foreign ministry expressing "regret" over the fatal shooting of Mohammad Jawawdah, Bashar Hamarneh and Raed Zuaiter, a judge at the Amman Court of First Instance, who was also shot and killed by Israeli soldiers in 2014. Israel's government pledged to continue legal proceedings to serve justice, as well as to compensate the martyrs' families, said Momani, who is also the government spokesperson. The memorandum expressed the Israeli government commitment to resume cooperation with the government of Jordan and resolve this issue. The Minster told Petra that the government will take appropriate action according to the higher national interests as the memo stated that Israel would comply with all conditions Jordan asked following the embassy incident in order to allow the Israeli ambassador to return to Amman. He said the government contacted the martyrs' families, who accepted the apology and the compensation.
